1931 - 2018 Donald Edward "Shorty" Irwin Sr. 87 of Bon Wier, Texas died on Sept. 10, 2018 in Bon Wier. He was born on April 1, 1831 in Fayette, New York was a former resident of Vidor, Texas and had lived in Bon Wier for the past 25 years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Local 450 and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his sons, Donald Irwin Jr. and wife, Gina of Vidor, John Irwin of Bon Wier, daughter, Lisa Foote of Bon Wier, brother, Clifford Irwin of New York, Dorothy Sheldon of Florida, Hilda Santee, Phyllis Pratt and Mary Johnson all of New York, grandchildren, Leah Foote, John Anthony Irwin Jr., Henry Irwin, Nina Irwin and Christopher Irwin and great grandchildren, Leif Menard and Kahlan Menard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elsa Lewis Irwin and parents, Harry and Leah Irwin. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lewis Chapel Cemetery in Newton County.
