Angelo James “Charlie” Basile, 99, of Huddleston, died Saturday, March 3, 2018. He was the son of the late Filippo Basile and Giovanna Famulara Basile. Angelo Basilelived a long, beautiful life. He was born in Brooklyn, NY during WW I, experienced Prohibition, the Great Depression and served his country in WW II. Angelo married his sweetheart, Mary and together they shared a love of family and their Italian traditions. Angelo was known for his workmanship and skill in anything he put his hands to; one of which was his beautiful stained glass work. He loved holidays, traditional food and family gatherings. Angelo loved sitting in his backyard with a beer in hand, sharing war stories with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never shied away from making fun of himself. Angelo loved to recall humorous stories about growing up in lower Manhattan with his formidable grandmother. His final days were spent peacefully with his son, Philip and his wife Betty in the picturesque mountain country of Smith Mountain Lake, VA. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Sciarabba Basile; sons, Philip Basile and wife, Betty; Robert Basile and wife Jane; grandchildren, Eric Basile and wife Virginia, Nancy Basile, David Basile and wife Misty, Andrew Basile; great-grandchildren, Vincent Basile, Owen Basile, Lewis Basile, Dylan Basile; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection will be said 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 9, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 15353 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA with Father Salvador Añonuevo officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 10:00 â€" 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
