Obituary

On Monday, January 28, 2019, Robert Burns Miller, age 67 of Bedford, VA, passed away peacefully at Centra Hospice House of Bedford. Robert was originally from California but lived in many countries and cities in the US as the son of a Navy Man. He leaves behind his beloved daughter Bree-Anne Miller of Crewe, VA and son, Josh Miller of North Carolina as well as 8 Grandchildren. As a professional photographer Robert became well known for his insightful photography as well as his willingness to help others on their photographic journey. He lived a life of exploration, dedication, passion, integrity, and service to others. Bob enjoyed helping others most by teaching photography workshops, classes and presentations in the Central Virginia area in collaboration with Jean Wibbens. His photos were often enjoyed by readers of the Bedford Bulletin as well as in many exhibitions in Virginia Galleries. Most recently he occupied a studio in the Electric Company's Artists on Depot where many of his photos are on display as Featured Artist for the month of February (see below). Bob's photos have appeared in National Geographic Magazine, and a Nat. Geo. book, 'Simply Beautiful Photographs' and in over 20 other magazines and book covers. He has won awards nationally as well as locally. One notable award was winning second place in the National Parks Foundation Share the Experience Photo contest that had over 10,000 entries. Bob was a member of Forest Photo Club, Bedford Photo Club and the Blue Ridge Photographic Arts Society. Robert will be remembered fondly by all, who were made brave by his support, wise by his counsel, and invincible by his love. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a Celebration of Life, date and location TBD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia Center for the Arts. Robert's photos will be on display at the Electric Company, Art & More, and 207 Depot St. Bedford, VA for the month of February. A Second Friday reception is on February 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
