Dale Deterding

Dale E. Deterding, 73, of Smithton, Illinois, born on March 30, 1945, in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, passed away at 4:33 am, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at home with loved ones.

Dale had been an Illinois State Trooper for 27 years and was an Army Veteran. He was a member of the Illinois Police Association and Fraternal Order of Police. He loved spending time with his grandkids and family. He also enjoyed playing poker with his buddies.

Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorothy (nee Menke) Deterding; stepfather, Oscar; Minnemann; a daughter-in-law, Heather Deterding; a brother, Charles Deterding; and mother-in-law, Agnolas DuFrenne Blow.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, nee DuFrenne, Deterding, whom he married on November 10, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, who survives in Smithton, IL; two children, Stacy (John) Buss of Smithton, IL, and Dean (Renee) Deterding of New Athens, IL; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Abigail Buss, Taylor, Lainey, Palin, Brooke, Janelle and Harper Deterding; four, siblings, Polly Sampson of El Cajon, CA, and Larry (Fern) Deterding, Albert (Carla) Deterding, and Carolyn (Robert) Minnemann Schneider all of Prairie du Rocher, IL; sister-in-law, Marlene Deterding of Prairie du Rocher, IL; brother-in-law, Denis (Brenda) DuFrenne of Lubbock, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

It was Dale's wishes to be cremated.

Visitation: Visitation on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.

Services: Memorial Mass begins 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating. Inurnment takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018, in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
