Mack Schmitt Sr.

Mack Joseph Schmitt Sr., 78, of Swansea, IL, born March 25, 1940, in East St. Louis, Illinois, was laid to rest surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 11, 2018 in Swansea, IL.

Mack married Janet Marie McAdams on July 1, 1961 in East St. Louis, Illinois, and together they had five children.

Mack and his wife were parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Belleville, Illinois. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1221 where he served as Legionnaire and he was a member of International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local #9. Mack enjoyed all amateur sports and he especially loved attending all sporting events at Althoff Catholic High School. For 17 years, he spent much of his time following his grandson Travis with competitive and college cheerleading. He didn't miss a game or event.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Mildred, nee McPherson, Schmitt; brother, Tom Schmitt and son-in-law, Darrell Williams.

Surviving, and left to cherish his memory include his wife Janet; children, Mary (Darrell) Williams, Mark (Mary Ann) Schmitt, John Schmitt, Joice (Andy Hoff) Schmitt, Mack (Anna) Schmitt Jr.; grandchildren, Tiffany Williams, Travis Williams, Anna Schmitt, and Hope Schmitt; brothers, William Schmitt and Clement Schmitt; sister, Kathryn Cune; a nephew, many nieces, and cousins.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, IL. 62223.

Funeral: Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 8707 W Main St, Belleville, IL 62223. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.

Following interment, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Belleville Moose, 2425 Illinois St., Swansea, IL.
