Bernice Moss Obituary
Bernice Moss, 81, of Breese, Ill., born May 3, 1922, in New Baden, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at her residence.
Bernice and her late husband Ben, co-founded Moss Funeral Home, Breese, Ill., Germantown, Ill., and Trenton, Ill., in 1953, she was an avid Pinochle and Euchre player. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Altar Sodality, Daughters of Isabella Precious Blood Circle 718, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and Concordia Saengerchor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander "Ben" Moss, whom she married Sept. 22, 1943, at St. George Catholic Church, New Baden, Ill., and who died Sept. 29, 1995; her mother, Estelle, nee Billhartz, Rathmann; her grandparents who raised her, John and Anna, nee Schrempp, Billhartz; her stepfather, George Rathmann; and a sister, George Ellen Rathmann.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Marty) Moss of San Diego, Calif., David (Maura) Moss of Breese, Ill., Glen (Theresa) Moss of Dayton, Ohio and Mark (Kim) Moss of Trenton, Ill.; her daughters, Donna (John) Boeing of Palos Heights, Ill., Barbara (Richard) Rhodes of Belleville, Ill., and Lora Zurliene of Breese, Ill; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brothers, George (Louise) Rathmann of Belleville, Ill., John (Letty) Rathmann of Breese, Ill., and Jim (Gail) Rathmann of Chandler, Ariz.

Visitation: Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Moss Funeral Home, Breese, Ill. Daughters of Isabella will pray at the rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral: Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Breese, Ill., with the Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Interment will be in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese, Ill.
