Lisa Marie (Hein) McGovern passed away June 20, 2018 at the age of 59 after a 10-year battle with cancer. She was born to Emmett and Doris Hein in Berkeley, CA on August 22, 1958. She lived and attended school in Oakland and Alamo, CA. After high school, she moved to Sitka, Alaska, where she worked in hospitality and fishing. In Sitka she met her future husband, Mike McGovern. After leaving AK, they moved to Deming, WA, and had a son, Gavin Michael. Lisa and Mike bred and raised Golden Retrievers and Lisa worked in the landscape business. Later, she became a veterinarian technician, working at Nooksack Animal Hospital. She loved the outdoors and animals, big and small. She also enjoyed occasional travel and lived life on her own terms. Lisa always took great interest in the people she met, focusing the conversation more on them than her. After her cancer diagnosis, Lisa handled her illness with grace and dignity. She never complained or asked why, and she outlived every doctor's prognosis. She is survived by her son Gavin, her mother Doris Hein, sisters Lindsay Belden (Jerry), Kerry Rogers (Gordon), and Corinne Hein (Colin Kempton), 6 nieces and nephews, 4 great-nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Baker. The family wishes to thank her many friends, especially Arline Young, Derrick and Linda Neckel and Kate, Robyn Beard and the staff of Nooksack Animal Hospital, and her hospice nurse Terah, and the other nurses at Whatcom Hospice Services for their endless support during her illness. Contributions can be made to Whatcom Hospice Services, 2800 Douglas Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225, the , or your local SPCA.
