Mikel Ingels

Mikel Ingels, age 79, of Ilwaco, and formerly of Bellingham, passed away November 1, 2018. Mikel was born in Tacoma on Saint Patrick's Day in 1939. She was the only child of Albert and Lois Engelhardt. As a child Mikel studied dance, including ballet, tap, and jazz. While attending Lincoln High School she enjoyed synchronized swimming and playing on the tennis team. She met Robert Burns during this time, and they were married in 1959 when she was 20 years old. Mikel loved being part of her new extended family. They had three children, and in 1965 the family moved to Longview. In 1970 they moved to Bellingham. While still in Tacoma, Mikel joined the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, where she met many lifelong friends. As part of this group she was active in many community fundraising events. In particular "Toys for Tots" meant a lot to her. Mikel was very involved with her three children while they were growing up. She was a den mother, a dance mom, and supported all of her children's interests. She also taught them all to ice skate, and fostered their interest in cooking and reading. Mikel met Jim Ingels in Bellingham and they married in 1998. The two of them shared a love of dancing and shopping; but most of all they just loved to be together. They moved to Long Beach, Washington in 2004 where they made a home together until Jim passed in 2012. Mikel is survived by children Mikel Elaine Burns, Robert Burns (Teresa), Shawn (Lori) and grandchildren Sam, Jake, and Archer. She will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life to be held in Bellingham's Squalicum Boathouse (2600 Harbor Loop) on Saturday, January 12 at 1 PM.
