Priscilla Cole (Genther, Whan) passed away peacefully June 27, 2018, two days prior to her 81st birthday. She had been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer 14 months earlier. Pris was born June 29, 1937 to Bernard and Kathleen Genther in Bellingham WA. She attended Bellingham High school and continued her education at Western Washington University where she met and married Ted (Alfred) Whan. They made their home in Burlington and raised three children, Teresa Thomas (McGuire), Doug Whan and Chris (Keefer) Whan. Pris shared often that her greatest joy was being a mom. She told us many times how lucky she was and stated throughout her life, "that she had the best kids." She loved having us visit and got great enjoyment from us sharing our friends with her even as we grew into adults and brought "home" our adult friends to share stories, crab, bad jokes, mother's potato salad, water bikes, paddling and sitting in the sun. The traditions continued with her grandkids, Lucas McGuire, Connor Whan and Curtis Whan, and their friends; which brought much joy to mother and has left the boys with many Nana Pris memories to cherish. Mother proudly displayed photos of her grandchildren throughout her house and next to her bed in her final months. Pris and Ted divorced after 23 years of marriage in 1982. Pris married Bob Cole, her current husband of 29 years, in March of 1989. They built their home in Ferndale, WA, at Sandy Point. Pris had many wonderful childhood memories at the family cabin on Neptune beach/Sandy Point boating, crabbing, fishing, and exploring. She loved being by the water, so returning to her childhood roots to live brought great joy to her heart. She loved peddling her water bike on the canal, and her land bike down the street to Keefer's cabin (built by Pris' father) to inspect Keefer's latest project. Boating, fishing and crabbing with Bob during the past 29 years and sharing "her bounty" and love of the water with her children, grandchildren and ALL of their friends, made her life joyful and complete. Priscilla is preceded in death by her sister Rosie Peterson, her ex-husband Ted Whan, her parents, and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her three children Teresa (McGuire) Thomas and her husband Wesley Thomas and grandson Lucas McGuire, Doug Whan, and Chris (Keefer) Whan and his wife Shelly and two grandsons Connor and Curtis Whan. She is also survived by her husband Bob Cole and his son Jason and wife Nickie, their two children, Owen and Ryan and Pris' brother Geoff Genther. The family will be holding a private celebration at Priscilla's request. In leu of flowers please donate to Whatcom Hospice Foundation in memory of Priscilla Cole.
