Inge Thurston

Ingeborg Margaret Marie Thurston was born in Alfstedt, Germany to Henry and Tina vonBargen. At the age of 2 her family came to the United States through Ellis Island to live in Freehold, New Jersey to work in the Family Hotel. She graduated from Freehold High School and worked as a desk clerk at hotels during the summer. After graduation her family moved to Bellingham and her father purchased the Cocoanut Grove and in later years the Pastime Café in downtown Bellingham. Inge met her husband Gilbert at the Cocoanut Grove. They were married at St James Presbyterian Church and were members there for over 70 years and married for almost 71 years. She volunteered at St Luke's Hospital as one of the first 'Pink Ladies" and Vice President of the Ella Stimson Auxiliary. She also was President of the PTA while her children were in school. In addition she was the Activities Director for Alderwood Convalescent Center and retired from Redwood School. Inge is survived by her husband Gilbert Thurston. Sons Grant (Sandy), Mark (Nancy), Brian (Pam) and Drew (Marlene) . Grandchildren Jeremy (Liz), Geoffery (LaShell), Stacy (Nathan), Erin (Vishal), Ryan and Hannah. Great Grandchildren Quinn, James, Parker, Kirin and Bela. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church in Bellingham on September 8 at 10:00 AM. Reception to follow.
