Kelly Peach Obituary

Kelly Corbus Peach was wicked smart, a tireless creator, and a joy to be around. Kelly grew up in Bellingham, Washington and went to Happy Valley, Fairhaven, and Sehome High School. One of Kelly’s major achievements was earning a PhD in chemistry from UC Santa Cruz. As a part of her research into marine bacteria that could be used to treat infectious diseases, Kelly learned how to scuba dive and dove with whale sharks in Central America. Kelly was a remarkable woman. One of her many passions was teaching. As a high school teacher, Kelly sought to inspire creativity and wonder through the lens of science. Kelly was a maker, biker, fire spinner, master scuba diver, Burner, chemist, artist, cook, pop-up card expert, juggler, writer, and a truly phenomenal friend. Kelly lived her entire life with incredible strength, resilience, and grace even in the face of such an early breast cancer diagnosis. Her brother Nick, sister Maggie, mother Sue, and father Andy, her family that loves her, will miss her forever.

Hello, I am a volunteer with Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS), a breast cancer support group that Kelly was a member of. I wanted to let Kelly's friends and family know that we will be honoring her with a plaque at the BAYS Memorial Garden, the first-ever memorial to honor people who have died of breast cancer. Our opening ceremony will be May 3. If anyone could put me in touch with Kelly's family, I'd appreciate it. My email is [email protected]. (Coincidentally, my son was also Kelly's student at University High School, and we adored her.)

Eric and I think about you all often and see a warm, vibrant light surrounding you all. What a gift Kelly was.
I loved reading about her and remember her as a young child when you visited in Chico and again as a kind, funny, loving young girl when we visited you all in Washington years ago. Love to you all.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I babysat for the Peaches when I was a teenager and have such fond memories of the kids. Kelly was so smart and and fun, and my second in command, always helping me wrangle the other kids. What a tremendous loss for the world. Sending so much love and comfort to Andy, Sue, Nick, and Maggie during their heartbreak.

Kelly was my niece and I will miss her. I remember her father Andy dancing on the bar top in downtown Bellingham the night Kelly was born in April 1984.. He looked like the village idiot as he lacked what the experts describe as balance and rhythm but the gleam of pride in his eyes made everyone in the place cheer him on and laugh with him in joyous celebration. Kelly suffered for many years, but managed to always have a shy smile and was a gentle, graceful soul much like her great grandmother Magie McMorris who Kelly never had the pleasure to meet. I wish I had made a better effort to spend more time with Kelly in her later years. She was one brilliant young woman. She was one of the few people I know who had no enemies. She was loved by all. Kelly is still special in our hearts.
