1916-2014 Mrs. Dorothy E. Nicholson, 97, of Pittsfield, passed away Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox. Born in Pittsfield on December 24, 1916 the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth Matthews Castle, she was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School and also a graduate of Berkshire Business College. Mrs. Nicholson was primarily a homemaker but had also worked for the Pittsfield Public Schools and General Electric. She enjoyed bowling at Candle Lanes and playing cards several days a week with her close group of friends. She also enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Nicholson was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Edmund A. Nicholson Sr. who died on July 8, 1988. She leaves her two sons, Edmund A. Nicholson Jr. and his wife Donna and David M. Nicholson and his longtime companion, Donna McClelland all of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Valerie Perry, Edmund A. Nicholson III, April W. Stapleton, Tiffany L. Roberts, Nicole Ireland and Trista Nicholson; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Joel A. Nicholson who died on January 20, 1990 and a brother George Castle. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy E. Nicholson will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home with a service at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Cricket Cooper, Rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, January 13, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
