Mark Berman

1954 - 2020

On Sunday, December 27, 2020, Mark Berman, loving husband and father passed away at 66. Mark's adventurous life began on January 6, 1954 in Boston. He was born to Sam and Vivian Berman, and the first of four boys. He spent his youth starring in neighborhood plays, raising a pet duck and learning the guitar from his father; before becoming a teenager and unabashed hippie.

Mark's first trip without parents was to Russia at 14, a "school trip" with his cousin, and he never looked back. His musical proclivities led him to play the banjo, mandolin, sitar, fiddle, ukulele and penny whistle; and became a regular in the folk/contra dance scenes. He was also a pilot, taking to the skies in aircraft, with and without engines, both of his children have stories of "crashing" in gliders, but don't tell their mother!

Mark became a fixture in educational technology, honing his craft at Williams College for over 10 years before becoming CIO, or Dean of Technology, at MCLA and later Siena College. He recently retired proudly boasting a resume that included, Yogi, Flying Instructor, Long Haul Truck Driver, and Software Engineer just to name a few. He was just as easily found laughing in a large group, as he was by himself reading in a hot tub in the rain with an umbrella.

Mark is survived by his wife, Nurit, who now knows all the scales, and his two children, Lyn, a classical scholar and teacher, and Noah, a world traveling chef. He is also survived by his father Sam, 97, and three brothers, David, Jonas and Micheal, as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews and cousins.
