Deborah McDermott Obituary

Deborah J. McDermott

1963 - 2016 Deborah Jocelyn McDermott died at Kindred Laurel Lake on August 18th, 2016 in Lee, MA after a long battle with brain cancer. Deb's loving family and friends were by her side during her last moments. She died at the age of 53. Debbie was born on January 18th, 1963 in Pittsfield, MA to her parents Court and Sue McDermott. Deb grew up in Lenox, MA where she lived most of her life. At the age of 20 she began working at Country Curtains where she remained for the following 28 years as head of the shipping department. Deb left her mark on Country Curtains and impacted many lives during her time there. In 2010 Deb left Country Curtains to open a daycare at her home in Lenox, MA. The daycare was successful. As a dedicated mother, Deb's instinctual ability to nurture and teach made working with children a perfect fit. Deb was a hard working, independent woman with a passion for skiing, canoeing, and anything physical. Exercise was one of the most important things to Deb. It kept her strong and motivated throughout her life. Debbie spent most of her childhood skiing at Bousquet where her father Court was the ski school director. Later in life she spent a lot of time skiing at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire where her mother worked. Deb was a genuine and honest person who always kept good company. Her close friends stood by her side through thick and thin. She was very loved by everyone in the community, but especially her friends and family. Deb was impossible to keep up with on the slopes, in a canoe, and in life in general. She didn't stop moving for a moment. There were few adversities in life Deb could not overcome. Debbie is survived by her mother Sue McDermott; her brother and sister-in-law Steve and Nina McDermott; her niece Abigail McDermott; her son Trevor Burnham; her daughter Samantha Burnham; her daughter Paige DiGrigoli; and her son Brady DiGrigoli. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Deborah J. McDermott who died August 18, 2016 will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bousquet on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Moments House, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 or to Moments House, 34 Depot St Suite 301 Pittsfield, MA.

While I did not know you well, it was obvious you were loved by many. I remember your thousand watt smile especially when you brought your little children in for a visit! I was awestruck how this pretty, skinny little thing ran the whole shipping department. The world has lost another beautiful soul. Rest peacefully and may God give strength to your family.

Deb and I worked at Country Curtains at the same time, and though I didn't work closely with her, I saw how well-liked and respected she was there. I reconnected with her when our kids became friends, and it was nice to see her at all the basketball games, even after she got sick and you knew it was difficult for her. I have a happy memory of Brady's recent birthday party at Fox Hollow, just hanging out with Deb, watching the kids swim and having cake together. Deb was sick and hated the backpack but she was such a fighter and so good-natured whenever I saw her. I can't express how sorry I am at losing her. It is a horrible loss for her family and so many. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially Brady and Paige.

To Sam and Trevor,

Your Mother was a wonderful person and spirit. I always remember her with a smile and a great personality. From when we played soccer as kids, to when we moved out, went to college, and got our first jobs I can remember seeing your mom at all these milestones sharing her wisdom and warmth. The community will always hold your mother in their hearts, she will not be forgotten by those who loved and knew her. I am so sorry for your loss. I know that words cannot mend the sadness you both must feel, but I wish you both health and happiness, and may your beautiful mother rest in peace and power.

My condolences to Deb's family. Deb was always a true friend, straight and honest. Deb was there to help, workwise, or a bunch of outgrown childens clothes to be passed to some needy mother, if she could help someone she just did. Deb enriched my years at Country Curtains, and our time beyond.I know so many people are feeling your loss today. She also was the only person I ever let call me the "Budster"!
