Marj was my next door neighbor in Pecos and a very dear friend to my Mother. As a teenager in Pecos in the 1950's I was given life guiding advice from Marj. My mother said Marj was the bravest person she ever knew when Marj was doing frontlines reporting of Billie Sol Estes in the 1950-1960 era. A very precious lady that influenced so many lives.

I am so sorry that I never met your Mom. We have exchanged Christmas cards for over 65 years. She remembered my husband, Bob Childress, from her days in Odem, Tx. Her card was always the first one we received. Bob died last year. The first thing I thought when I saw her story in the Dallas News was he would have loved to have known that part of her story. She told us several years ago that she had written a book but I never followed up and located it. Now I know I really should have. We were Blessed by her thoughtfulness every year.

I first Marj when she came, as GA Moderator, to the church I was serving in Sapulpa Oklahoma in December 1995. We had overflowing crowds and she did not disappoint. Her personal, down to earth, mission focused sermon was a hit! There are many many Marj stories, but I will always remember this special time in the church and my life. Thank you God for Marj's witness and ministry.

Marj is remembered by me as a former Sunday school teacher when I was very young at the First Presbyterian Church in Pecos, Tx. Later she was my wonderful Girl Scout leader where the troop had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things. She will always be remembered by me. Prayers to Carolyn and Jim Bob!

Condolences, hugs, & prayers to the Carpenter Family !!
Marj was bigger than life. She was an amazing Girl Scout Troop 14 leader , and 1st Church, Pecos, Youth Group leader. My memories are full of stories of her love for us, her dedication, and time spent with us.
Thank you,
