William Henderson Brantley III

May 11, 1933-Jan. 2, 2015 William Henderson Brantley III passed away on January 2, 2015 at the age of 81. Born in Birmingham, he graduated from Loomis School in Windsor, Connecticut and The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He also served in the United States Army. He sold insurance at Cobbs, Allen and Hall and worked in the industrial development department of Alabama Power Company, soliciting businesses to locate in the state of Alabama. He was later self-employed. He was a member of the Redstone Club, Mountain Brook Club, the American Legion Post 134, and Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henderson Brantley Jr. and Evelyn Hassinger Brantley, his sister, Ann Brantley Cox, and his brother, Richard Kirven Brantley He is survived by his wife, Lucy Forsyth Brantley and his three children: daughter, Lucy Brantley Hawkins (Michael), son, Arthur Forsyth Brantley (Ritsuko) and son William Henderson Brantley. He is survived by six grandchildren: Arthur Junichi Brantley, William Henderson Brantley Jr., Hunter Richmond Brantley, Mary Kane Brantley, Michael Brian Hawkins Jr., and Thomas Brantley Hawkins. He is also survived by Mary Jean Hunter Brantley. A memorial service will be held at Saint Luke's Episcopal Chuch on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Birmingham Public Library, Avondale Branch (2100 Park Pl. Birmingham, AL 35203), Saint Luke's Episcopal Church (3736 Montrose Rd. Birmingham, AL 35213), or a charity of your choice.
