Dudley "Duke" R. Brown, 94, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2013 at his home. A native of New Jersey, he had resided in Henderson County for over 20 years. He was a son of the late William and Edith Hollaway Brown. Duke was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna in 2011 and his sister, Muriel Rafter.
A veteran of the Army Air Corps, now known as the Air Force, he proudly served his country during WWII. He retired after 39 years of service with New Jersey Bell in 1986. Duke volunteered for many non-profits over the years and he was past president of the Jersey Bell Pioneers and treasurer of the Western Carolina Wing-8th Air Veterans Force Group.
Duke was an avid gardener, Chicago Cubs fan and loved all sports in general, especially softball and golf. He was an amazing husband, wonderful father, and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved the people of his community and the folks at Chick-fil-A in Hendersonville.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon A. Chapman of Charlotte, NC and Linda White of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Josh White, Kris Chapman, Skylar O'Neil and Tim Schrank; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Christian O'Neil, and Madison Chapman; sister, Barbara Demarest and a number of other relatives.
