Eleanor Mayo (Highsmith) Fawcett Obituary
Eleanor Mayo Highsmith Fawcett, age 92 of Hendersonville, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Carolina Village Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1926 in Pender County, NC; a daughter of the late, Lewis Allison Highsmith and Juliette Gilmore Mayo Highsmith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin B. Fawcett in 2003.
Eleanor graduated in 1948 with her Bachelor of Science Degree from UNC Chapel Hill; she was employed with the National Institutes of Health prior to her marriage. She lived in Hendersonville since 1987; she was a gracious southern lady who was genuine in her love and service toward God, family, church, community and friends. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, oil painting and flower arranging. She loved traveling and the beauty of nature. She volunteered with several organizations and was an active member of Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan M. Fawcett of Myrtle Beach, SC and Shirley F. DuRant and her husband, Henry of Lexington, SC; one son, Clinton B. Fawcett and his wife, Jill of San Clemente, CA; three grandchildren, Jenna M. Rainey and her husband, John, Daniel L. Fawcett, and Jonathan H. DuRant; and by her brother, Julien G. Highsmith and his wife, Clara of Brasstown, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 in the Sanctuary of Hendersonville Presbyterian Church officiated by Reverend Dr. Bill Campbell.
Inurnment will be in the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Eleanor's memory be directed to Interfaith Assistance Ministry, P.O. Box 2562, Hendersonville, NC 28793; or to the Hendersonville Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1512, Hendersonville, NC 28793.
