GREENVILLE- James A Crumpton Sr 96, passed away Nov. 24, 2018 at McCall Hospice House after a brief illness.
Born in Greenwood, raised in Greenville, and spent his career with Burroughs/Unisys in Michigan. He retired to Hendersonville NC and recently moved back to Greenville to be closer to his faithful niece and caregiver, Susan.
Son of the late Grover C. Crumpton,SR. and Emma A. Williams. He is survived by his beloved daughter Sandra A Crumpton (husband Lawrence James) of Winchester England, niece Susan Coster (Keith) great nephew Matthew Coster of Piedmont SC and great niece Jennifer James of Raleigh NC and niece Gail Jones (Ronnie Bagwell) of Easley SC.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty Surett Crumpton, son James A. Crumpton Jr. brothers John W., Grover C. Jr., Charles E. and Fred M. Crumpton.
James served in the Army during WWII as a Technician 4th Class combat engineer attached to the infantry in the Okinawa invasion. Before the war he played the trumpet at the Poinsette Hotel in Greenville for officers of Donaldson Air Base weekly dance. And throughout his service he was always playing wherever he was stationed. He had a gift for and a love for music since his father first taught him to play at the age of 13.
He had a long and full life and we thank God for the influence he has had on each of us.
A private memorial will be held when Sandra comes home in the spring. Honor him by showing an act of kindness to someone every day.
