Joan (Barnwell) Reid Obituary
Joan Barnwell Reid, age 83 of Hendersonville, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital. She was born November 8, 1934 in Henderson County; a daughter of the late Henry Allen Barnwell and Eva Suzanna Hyder Barnwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Reid, Sr. in 2002; and by her brother, Jimmy Barnwell.
A lifelong resident of Henderson County; she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville for 63 years, where she was a member of the Ruth Swann's Circle and numerous Sunday school classes. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, painting, and was an avid UNC Tarheels Basketball Fan. She loved her family dearly and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Kenneth Reid, Jr. and his wife, Darnell, Sheila Koons and her husband, Tom and Henry Reid and his wife, Jaine; six grandchildren, Jeremy Pace, Jacob Pace, Amanda Reid, Caleb Reid, Megan Sloan and Hannah Nowak; and by five great-grandchildren, Cora Reid, Hadleigh Pace, Hank Vinson, Poppie Sloan and Ellie Pace. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Cantrell and her husband, James; brother, Allen Barnwell and his wife, Marilyn; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville officiated by the Reverend Wally Shamburger. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Joan's memory be directed to FISH Volunteer Service of Henderson County, 526 7th Avenue East, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
