MILLS Jonalyn Passed away peacefully on Thursday 10th June 2021 following a short illness.
'Miss Mills' to generations of schoolchildren, Head of two schools and guide to countless parents, pupils and teachers. A Grammar school girl herself, Jonalyn had a vocation for teaching matched by very few which was honed at Redland College Bristol in the 1970's before she returned to teach, inspire and lead schools in the Chichester area for the next 4 decades.
The phrase ' A pillar of the community' is perhaps over used but it really does describe Jonalyn who contributed enormously to the community, both in West Dean and surrounding villages- a founding member of The Trundler's Amateur Dramatic Society and the West Dean College Social Club, a scorer for West Dean Cricket Club, an organiser of village sports and the Question Master for many pub quizzes, a Chair of the Valley Horticultural Society and a governor of the village school. Jonalyn was truly one of life's givers and was a helping hand and strength during the recent pandemic.
She will be very sadly missed by her sister, brother, extended family and
all who knew her.
Jonalyn has requested a simple cremation with no ceremony, donations to Cancer Research UK may be made via Reynolds Funeral Service website: www.reynoldsfunerals.co.uk.
When conditions allow there will be a memorial service for Jonalyn at which all will be very welcome.
Sponsored by Reynolds Funeral Service (Chichester).

I remember Jonalyn very well from our years as pupils at Chi High and am so very sorry to hear she's no longer with us. I'll bet she's keeping busy with classes of young angels!❤. My sincere condolences.

You were an inspiration, provided guidance and direction to us and our son George. You would be so proud of him - the Ballard values are instilled and he is currently taking his Master in International Corporate Finance. Thank you for all your hard work to bring out the best in each and every one.
