SEAN GANNON Obituary
Born August 22nd, 1985 in New Bedford, MA, he graduated from All Saints Elementary School in 1999, and Bishop Stang High School in 2003. Gannon graduated with honors from Westfield State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master's with honors from Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a degree in Emergency Management in 2011, and the MBTA Municipal Police Academy. Gannon's internships included Nantucket Police, Westfield Police, and earned certifications as an EMT and Life Saving Instructor. Gannon started his career at Stonehill College in 2007 as a member of the Campus Police before joining the Yarmouth Police Department in 2010. Gannon was part of the Emergency Management Unit, a part-time member of the Proactive Anti-Crime Team, and he was the first K-9 narcotics officer for YPD. After retiring the K-9 narcotics officer, Gannon acquired the patrol dog who was also injured at the scene of the crime.
Sean leaves a legacy of high moral integrity, infectious humor, and collaborative work with colleagues. He enjoyed travel, working with his hands, donating his time to Big Brother/Big Sister and being outside. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Sean was deeply intuitive and inspired others to be their best selves.
Sean leaves his wife, Dara (Bryan), his parents, Patrick and Denise, his siblings, Timothy and his fiance Mary, Martha and her husband Derrick, his in-laws Kathy and Dean Bryan, and their son Ross, along with many relatives and friends.
Whatever Sean did, he gave 100% of himself. He will be profoundly missed by his family, colleagues, and friends.
Vigil for the Deceased and visitation will be on Tuesday, April 17th, 2018 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at St. Pius X in South Yarmouth, MA. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 5 Barbara St., South Yarmouth, MA on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018. Burial will be held privately.
The family deeply appreciates the incredible outpouring of local and national messages of support and condolences. The family particularly wishes to recognize the outstanding presence of the Yarmouth Police Department during this difficult ordeal. I didn't know Sean, and that was my loss. I am a native Cape Codder and spent my first 56 years on Cape Cod, never getting out of the Town of Yarmouth, (other than being born in Hyannis at C.C. Hospital and going away to UMass-Amherst for college). I have known and been friends with numerous Yarmouth policemen/women and their families over the years and have been blessed to have known them. I am saddened by the loss of this young man and on behalf of the Yarmouth "men in blue" who have lost a comrade in arms, fellow officer, and friend. As a retired veterinary technician, I am thrilled to see that Sean's partner, Nero, has done so well and is recovering nicely. To anyone who knows Peter it is no surprise that he remained by Nero's side through the ordeal. My prayer for him is that he live to a ripe old age. To Sean's wife, I am heartily sorry for your loss and can't even begin to imagine the pain. The tremendous outpouring of support must have been a welcome but small consolation overall. I wish for you the comfort of knowing you shared your life, even for a short time with an exceptional young man. My prayer for you is peace and wonderful memories of this man you intended to share your life with. To Sean's family, my prayer for you is peace in knowing that you raised such a good man and even though he was taken from you all way too soon, you have much to be proud of. God bless you all and give you peace.

Sean was a campus police officer while I was a student at Stonehill, and I got to know him briefly when he served as the staff leader for my HOPE trip to the DR. I will always remember him as in the pictures below (which the children took), surrounded by dozens of kids who absolutely adored him and wouldn't leave his side. I am sure he brought that joy and gentle kindness to all that he did. Incomprehensible and tragic though its end, there is no doubt his life will continue to inspire others to go on living with more kindness and goodness. I am grateful for the immense privilege of knowing Sean for even that short period of time; for getting to have my life touched by your son, husband, brother, and colleague who is now a hero to all. HERE IS THE POEM I WROTE FOR AN AWESOME MAN
BLUE HERO
Sean and Nero our Blue Hero's were a unit that you couldn't break apart
That was until a bullet separated them and it broke everyone's heart
Sean was a special person that no one will ever forget
Especially Nero who doesn't know what happened that it was Kismet
He gave his heart and soul to everyone he met
The community will always be forever in his debt
Willing to go the extra mile for needy girls and boys
Being with him made them happy and brought them so much joy
He was a valued member of Yarmouth Police and became part of their flock
He and Nero were a great team and their K9 building block
We will always remember his infectious laugh and willingness to share
Giving so much of his time and energy and wanting no fanfare
Dara was the love of his life and now she and others cry rainbow tears
For the years they no longer have to share and he'll never again be near
He'll always be remembered with love and honor for sacrificing his life
His soul is in heaven now he has to deal with no more strife
He is looking down on the awesome outpouring of love and never knew
How many people he touched just being himself he really had no clue
So, remember when you pass a man in blue give thanks he is there for you
