LEOCADIA ZAK Obituary

ZAK, Leocadia Wolak Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend "Lottie," 96, of Peabody and Lynn, died peacefully on February 25, 2018. Born in New Britain, CT, Lottie was the daughter of Polish immigrants, the late Anthony and Sophie (Pryga) Wolak. Leocadia received her nursing degree from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Waterbury, CT and later went on to further her education at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It was during her time in Washington, D.C. that she met her husband, the late Dr. Frank Zak. They married in 1946, and in 1947 moved to Lynn where they raised their three children and together owned and worked side-by-side along with her brother Dr. Mitchell Wolak at Lynn Animal Clinic. Lottie was very involved in her community and her children's activities, including serving as a Girl Scout Leader. Mrs. Zak was also a long-time active member of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Lynn, until its closing in 2004. She also served as a member of the St. Hedwig Society. Lottie was always grateful for her college education and believed in giving back to others. In 2011, she founded the Leocadia Wolak Zak Endowed Scholarship at the Catholic University of America School of Nursing, to benefit nurses who hope to pursue graduate studies. Lottie was predeceased by her three siblings, Maryann Cichowski of CT, Theodore Wolak of CT, and Mitchell Wolak of FL. She is survived by her son, Francis Zak and his wife Patricia of Longmeadow, MA, her two daughters Mary Archambault and her husband Leo of Lynn, and Leocadia Zak and her husband Kenneth Hansen of Washington, DC; her two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Leocadia Archambault of Lynn; her two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Aiden Stank of Lynn; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation will be held at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., LYNN on Thursday from 4 -7 pm. The funeral will be held from Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home on Friday at 10 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Pius V Church in Lynn at 11 am. Interment will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to the Catholic University of America School of Nursing, Gowan Hall, 620 Michigan Ave, N.E. Washington, DC, 20064. I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. & Mrs. Zak were always so hospitable during my college days at Mount Holyoke with their daughter Leocadia. They were remarkable people. Praying for God's peace and comfort for the family.
