I remember getting a pep talk just before a promotional event with Bill Russell "what ever you do don't ask his for his autograph" I didn't know why at the time, then Tank told me everything there was to know about this legend. After the event was over he asked me hey Jared would you like to meet Bill Russell?? I still have the picture from that day, Paul was such a class act.
He was a great man to work with I loved listening to his stories. Every time I picked him up for a event he would tell me a new story all true, all were fascinating to hear. I miss him.... I can still here his voice
he always sounded so happy. I got to drive a TANK and I will always be grateful that.

As a broadcaster, Tank was professional, collaborative, thorough, funny, and wildly entertaining. He LIVED sports. His segments had passion, elation, anger, joy, sadness, and knowledge...because he was a fan and a real person. A person who was loyal, funny, friendly, super-generous, and just a love. He taught me a lot about the business, but more about how to be a better person. He always cared more about how YOU were doing. Peace to you and your entire family.

I can feel a hug from Tank as I write. We arrived at BCN the same year and he worked the Listener Line during my show on occasion. I was thinking of him recently while listening to Magic Johnson talk about Larry Bird. Hearing I'd never been to a Celtics game, a horrified Tank trundled me off to the Garden to see the great rivals play. I would so love to relive that Sunday. A dear, dear soul who brought joy to so many. Buen viaje Paul. Rest well. More games ahead!

Tank was like the guy you heard yelling at the coaches and managers while you were watching the games on TV at a sports bar; and he aired those opinions loudly every morning on my “Big Mattress” radio show. Listeners looked forward to his gruff, honest and very opinionated way of talking sports - he sounded the way ordinary fans do when they gather together at family dinners, tailgate parties and barbecues.
Behind the scenes, Paul did many wonderful things for people less fortunate than he and which few people knew about. (Whatever the Italian word is for "mensch"- that was Paul "Tank" Sferruzza - and everyone who listened to him as "Tank on Sports" or who knew him personally, loved him!) He was a wonderful human being, and beneath all the bravado, he was a truly humble person who was big in every way: big physically, big charismatically, a guy with a big sense of humor -- and an even bigger heart..."

So sad to hear this. Tank was always nice to me during my time at WBCN, even in coercing people to give me a ride home after work. He will be missed.
