RONALD H. MARCKS

1931 - 2021

MARCKS, Ronald H. Died on Monday, March 22, 2021, after several years of declining health. He was born December 4, 1931, in New Haven, CT to Henry J. and Mildred Perinchief Marcks. He graduated from East Orange High School and Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa, 1952). After serving as a Navy pilot, commanding a 4-engine P2V-Neptune in Squadron VP24, he spent a year at Eastman Kodak Company before attending Harvard Law School (1960). He joined the Boston law firm, Goodwin, Procter & Hoar, becoming a partner in 1969, then going to Norton Company in Worcester as General Counsel. In 1974, under the pen name Jens O. Parsson, he wrote Dying of Money, Lessons of the Great German and American Inflations, which continues as a respected and best-selling study of inflation. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Barbara Wye Marcks, his stepson Peter McLaughlin and his family of East Aurora, NY, a niece, 3 nephews and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. His late sister and brother-in-law were Luella Jean and William Rogers. Ron was involved in a number of professional and charitable organizations, with special interests in conservation, music and libraries. He flew his own airplane for 10 years and drove his small tractor to mow grass and plow snow. A man of many parts, he loved classical music and opera, carpentry, photography, swimming, and the Patriots. He carried on a scholarly interest in economics and history all his life.
