ALEXANDER BOVE Obituary

BOVE, Alexander Agostino Jr. Of Chestnut Hill, MA, age 87, born in Quincy, MA, to Alexander A. Bove, Sr., Monte San Biagio, Italy and Mary D'Amico Bove, Quincy, MA, passed away peacefully, on November 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and close friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Alexander is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Catherine M. Bove, Chestnut Hill, MA; his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Steven Terenzio, Canton, MA; his son and daughter-in-law, Alexander Bove and Amanda Duncan, Portland, OR; his loving sister, Adele Milani, Norwell, MA; and several grandchildren. Having met at a school dance hall, Alexander and Catherine had a long and storied romance and were happily married for over 60 years. Alexander held a law degree from Suffolk University, an LLM from Boston University, and a doctorate of law from the University of Zurich, was a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, and was a practicing attorney, specializing in trusts and estate planning, at the Law Offices of Bove and Langa in Boston, MA, which he founded. He was an acclaimed author of several books and innumerable articles on trust law, estate planning, and other legal matters. His weekly column, "The Family Money," which appeared in the Boston Globe for over two decades, informed the general public on practical aspects of wills and estate, and was a long-running favorite among readers of the Globe. His most popular book, "The Complete Book of Wills and Estates," on which he collaborated with his close friend and law firm partner, Melissa Langa, helped countless people successfully manage their retirement and provide for their survivors. Alexander was an estimable polymath who seemed to acquire new skills effortlessly, including foreign languages, woodworking, music, and various arts. The proud "Papa" of Siena Nguyen and her husband, Joe Nguyen, Alexander Terenzio, and Lucca Terenzio; and beloved bisnonno to Alessia Nguyen. Alexander cherished close family ties and fostered a tight family circle. He loved to travel and ventured all over the world, imparting his passion for different cultures, languages, and cuisines to his whole family. Alexander will always be remembered by those who knew him for his profound generosity and his infectious and unfailing sense of humor. Visitation was held at the Magni Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St., NEWTON, from 4-8pm, on Wednesday, November 12, and again on Thursday morning, at 8:45am, before proceeding to St. Ignatius Parish, for a 10am Funeral Mass, 28 Comm Ave., Chestnut Hill. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Andrew J. Magni & Son F.H. www.magnifuneralhome.com

A Most Fortunate Friendship
Alexander Agostino Bove Jr., Esquire, KB of Tremont
Of Life´s intersections, many are improbable, few most-fortunate. My inaugural meeting with Alexander was a most-fortunate improbable day in 1974. After reading Alexander´s Boston Globe column The Family Money, I sent Al a note, the note offered a blend of high praise, and a mild note of suggestion. Of my suggestion, such temerity prompted Alexander to summon me to the Hill for a chat over lunch. Our improbable intersection bestowing a steadfast most fortunate friendship spanning a half- century, perhaps ignited by the discovery of our mutual devotion to the Ignatian Tradition of service-to-others. Of life´s gifts, perhaps the better part of one´s life, consists of the stuff of friendship. Alexander was a giant when measured by his love of living, his unconditional, fierce love of his family, associates, and friends. He brought into all of our lives, thoughtfulness, integrity, kindness, humor, humility, and loyalty, unshakeable loyalty. A vintage Alexander outing was crammed with meaningful activity, intelligent conversation, and a generous dose of humor. If intelligence is measured by humor and diction our Alexander was a virtuoso. Of our profound most-fortunate friendship, I am most thankful that our time was spent thoughtfully, Al a dear friend and a professions mentor. Our conversations always stimulating, never mundane, they best described as marathon in nature, spanning the gamut from the philosophical, to the purest levels of school-boy silly. On any day that I visited with Alexander, on Beacon Street, on Tremont, or Chestnut Hill, my spirits were lifted; I will miss such visits, profoundly. Alexander died not as he lived, rather quietly, resigned, exhibiting a reluctance to leave; such reluctance paying us the greatest compliment, and perhaps Al´s reluctance was his benediction.
It is to God that we commend our Alexander, our most-fortunate friend, God´s great gift to us. May the Angels in Heaven greet Alexander with a thousand clarion shouts, `Welcome Home´. This friend will miss, deeply, a Most Fortunate Friendship.

Several years ago I had the opportunity to share a dinner with Mr. Bove at the Heckerling Conference. We discovered that both of our fathers had been pipe fitters and wondered how we had both stumbled into the law as a profession, and agreed that we were blessed to have done so. Although my time with Mr. Bove was brief, my impression was that he was the epitome of a gentleman and the best example of what an attorney should be. He will be missed and in my prayers. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing. He was my brother, Vinnie's, idol and I was so grateful when Al would visit him at the nursing home. It made Vinnie so happy. I am sure they are now reminiscing about all the good times they shared. God bless Lena Corrente
