CATHERINE FLANNERY Obituary
FLANNERY, Catherine 94 of Dorchester MA died peacefully on February 4, 2015 at the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Jamaica Plain, MA following a chronic illness. Catherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by her parents, James Columba Flannery and Anne White Flannery and her siblings, Mary Flora Flannery and James Gerard Flannery. Catherine is survived by several cousins, Priscilla Hundley, Belmont MA, Frank Flannery and John Mersereau of New Brunswick Canada, their families and a host of devoted friends. In honor of her 90th birthday on August 6, 2011, she received a proclamation from the City of Boston, which read in part: "Catherine was a lifelong resident of the Dorchester Community. She has devoted her life to making the world a better place as a teacher, parishioner, community member and as a friend. Catherine a founding member of the Dudley Street Neighborhood initiative, has been an integral part of bringing the Dudley Street Neighborhood back from devastation to an urban village in progress. Serving on the DSNI Board of Directors as well as the Sustainable Development Committee, Catherine helped make Dudley Town Common a reality. She was also instrumental to this project offering her time to do research for the creation of the history panels that line the Town Common. Catherine has participated in numerous community clean-up and beautification efforts to improve the quality of life within the community. Catherine has been a faithful volunteer in many important efforts including Project Hope and Simon of Cyrene. She is a member of the congregation of Holy Family and an acomplished pianist." Catherine took a keen interest in the history of her family and was able to trace her Great grandparents back to Tipperary Ireland. The walls of Catherine's room at the Armenian Nursing Home was covered with photos of her family and friends, which she enjoyed sharing with the nursing staff and visitors. Funeral Mass Friday Feb. 13 in Holy Famiy Church at 11 a.m. Interment New Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited. Viewing in the church 1 hour prior to Mass.
