CHARLES EATON Obituary

Eaton, Charles F. Charles "Charley" F. Eaton III passed away from complications related to cancer on August 7, 2014, at his home in Jacksonville Beach, FL. A Boston-area native, Charley was born in Cambridge, MA, on November 17, 1934, the fourth child of Charles F. Eaton, Jr., of Princeton, ME, and Clarissa "Chris" (Metcalf) Eaton, of Providence, RI. After graduation from Phillips Exeter Academy, Charley, like his father and older brother, Joseph "Joe," attended Harvard College where he received a B.A. in history in 1958. In college, he was captain of the wrestling team and played football. Like his father and brother, he was a member and president of the Owl Club at Harvard. After college, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army in Fort Dix, NJ. Later, he started his career as a bond analyst working with his brother at their father's Boston-based company, Eaton and Howard. After retirement, he became a competitive golfer, following in the footsteps of his mother, Chris, and sister, Sarah "Sally." Charley is survived by his wife of 24 years, Charlotte (Boes) Eaton of New York City and Jacksonville Beach, FL, where his step-son Cleve Shurtz resides also. In addition, he is survived by his former wife of 29 years, Lynn Wylde of Dartmouth, MA, and their four children, Charles, Jean, Keith, and Sarah Eaton Joyce, grandchildren, Polly and Madron Joyce, and his sister, Wilhelmina "Willie" Eaton. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
