HOWARD MAYBERRY Obituary

MAYBERRY, Howard A. Age 70, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020, at Mt. Auburn Hospital following a cardiac arrest while using a snow-blower. Born June 21, 1950, in Beverly Farms, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Doris (Lent) Mayberry. Howard grew up in San Jose, CA, where he graduated from UC Santa Cruz with one of the school's first degrees in Computer Engineering. Always cognizant of his New England roots, he returned to Bolton, MA, in the 1980's, and later moved to Cambridge, MA. He was proud of a lengthy career at both Digital Equipment Corporation and RSA Security. Later in life, he devoted himself to work in the Alternative Insemination Program at Fenway Community Health in Boston. Howard was intellectually curious and politically informed. He maintained a wide range of interests from economics and investing to history and science fiction, and he supported many causes including LGBTQ marriage equality as well as civil rights and environmental initiatives. For the past 20 years, he also volunteered weekly at the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline. On a lighter side, Howard cherished a 30-year Supper Club membership with close friends. His many hobbies included baking, gardening, hiking, all kinds of music, and maintaining his Cambridge home with his devoted husband, Robert P. Tetirick. After retirement, he and Bob enjoyed US travel and theater in New York City. Howard is sadly missed by his husband, Bob, and his two brothers and their wives, Jay and Linda Mayberry and Jeff and Marybeth Mayberry. Other siblings include Jean Carlen, John Dunlop, and Dick Dunlop. He is also missed by in-laws, Karen and Tom Hartman, Ted and Theresa Tetirick, and Bruce and Patty Tetirick, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. His husband, Bob, acknowledges the love and support of many dear friends, colleagues, and neighbors. There will be no Funeral Services. At Howard's request, his body will be cremated through Casper Funeral and Cremation Services in DORCHESTER, and his ashes dispersed at places Howard loved. A Celebration of Howard's Life, planned for the summer, will be announced at a later date. Gifts in Howard's memory may be made to Partners In Health at https://www.pih.org

Bob,
I do not have an email address for you, but remembered Howard's name, and I keep thinking of you losing him and my not properly acknowledging that loss. I am sorry for your loss, and hope that, by now, you are able to dwell on your very best memories of Howard. I hoe those memories bring you renewed joy, for aren't we lucky if we have had someone to love who also loves us?
I wish I'd had more time with you at the reunion. But I am glad you were going to make the effort to ee other members of your family. As we grow older family becomes especially important, doesn't it!?
With love to you, today and always. I hope I see you again---before so much time passes!
Meredith

I was a park ranger at the Olmsted site and had the opportunity to work with Howard over many years. He was just one of those approachable people, and I always knew that when we got to talking that I would learn something new through what he had read or his travels. He will be remembered and missed.

Howard was one of Dirty Water Brass Bands biggest fan's. We performed at he and Bob's wedding reception. I will miss his calm, kind, and supportive demeanor and beautifully friendly face. My heart goes out to all his family and friends. He was a lovely man and will be hugely missed by all of us.
