MARTIN MADANCY Obituary

MADANCY, Martin Sarkis Age 93, passed away January 18, 2021 in Rockville, MD. Son of the late Sarkis and Rose Madancy, brother of the late Robert S. Madancy, Martin proudly served in the US Army Occupation forces in Germany after WWII, before embarking on a career in journalism that included sports writing in rural Pennsylvania and a long stint as an editor for the New Bedford Standard Times. Affectionately known to friends as Marty and family as Sonny, he was a gifted photographer, painter, and writer. His paintings were featured in several local exhibitions, and one appeared in the annual calendar of the AARP. Sonny was also a talented author whose stories for children were published in several national magazines. He loved his garden, corny jokes, sports, and the cities of Boston and Arlington. He was a devoted caregiver for his late mother for many years. He is survived by his sister-in-law LaVerne Madancy, his nieces and nephews Joyce, Robert, and Steve Madancy and their families, as well his cousin Gloria Messerlian and her family. His quick and mischievous wit, unshakable good nature, and artistic talent will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service will take place in Arlington in late summer 2021.
