ZARKADES, Nicholas "Nick" Artist, loving husband and father, passed away at home on February 15, 2021 at the age of 78. Nick was born December 11, 1942 in Beverly, MA to the late Harry and Roumpene Zarkades. After graduating from Beverly High School, Nick chased his dreams of being an artist at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, class of 1967. Nick's successful career brought him to many notable companies such as Readers Digest Magazine in New York, Rust Craft Greeting Cards in Dedham, and the Gillette company in Boston before co-founding design firms Fader Jones & Zarkades in 1988 and Marketing by Design in 2000. His 43 years in the design industry was punctuated with many awards and accomplishments. However, he always said his greatest accomplishment was his family. Survived by his adoring wife Alexis and their two daughters, Nicole and Elizabeth, nothing brought Nick more happiness than "his girls." His kind, creative and fun spirit made him an incredible husband, father, teacher, and friend. Always creating, he enjoyed building sculptures out of reclaimed wood and metal, bringing new life to discarded and weathered materials. He also loved driving and restoring his Austin Healeys. As a member of the Austin Healey clubs of New England and America, his passion for the cars brought him many friendships and memories that he deeply cherished. Nick was a lifelong tennis player, spreading his passion for the sport with friends and family. His girls will miss his coaching, on and off the court. Nick was known for his enthusiasm, generosity and kindness. Without hesitation, he was always willing to lend his talents and support to any person in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, Alexis, Nick is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Nicole Zarkades Gray and Andrew Gray of Beverly, and Elizabeth Zarkades of Beverly; his loving brother Anthone Zarkades of Salem; sister-in-law Lesley Zarkades of Beverly; and many loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother George D. Zarkades of Beverly; his sister Matina and her husband Peter Kallas of Beverly; and his sister-in-law Persephoni Zarkades of Salem. Due to COVID restrictions, services for Nick will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverley. A celebration of his life will be held this summer at the family home. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) by searching the memorial fund "Nick Zarkades."
