To the Family May God continue to Bless you and keep you in this time of sorrow. Rev. Phillips was an outstanding person who was dedicated to our community. He helped many of us realize our potential and aided us along our way. His belief in others will always stay on my mind as he helped me succeed in my lifes'lessons. I have been praying for your family eversince I left for New Mexico some 20 odd years ago and will continue to pray for . I wish to be included among those who are expressing deepest sympathy to the family of Rev. Dr. Oscar Phillips. He was truly a man of God and pastored so many of us. I probably would not have continued my education if it had not been for Rev. Phillips. Because of his love for Bishop College, his Alma Mater, he recruited me and other West Medfordites to attend Bishop in Dallas. I found a family of college professors who helped us believe that we could accomplish anything we desired. They loved learning and challenged us to acquire the same love.
It was there that I learned so much about my African American heritage and the leaders who 'made a way out of no way'. After earning a Ph.D. I went on to spend many years,giving back, by teaching in HBCU's. Rev. Phillips loved Bishop so much and he wanted the youth of West Medford to get an education. His legacy must also be one of education. We must encourage our youth that education beyond high school is a must, not a privelege.
That would be a fitting way to respect Rev. Dr. Phillip's memory.

It is with deepest regret to hear of the homegoing of Rev. Phillps. On behalf of my family we extend our sincerest regrets. I am thankful for the guidance he provided in my life and the lives of all us growing up in West Medford.

It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of one of my heroes and role models. Next to my father, Rev Phillips was one of the kindest, caring and most influencial men in my early life. His intelligence, wit and love of life came through both in his sermons and the way he went about his work. Although he will be missed by his family and countless others, his legacy to the community will remain. May God bless his family in their bereavement.

I was blessed to be among those who were able to witness at the funeral the marvelous tribute that was paid to Reverend Phillips by his family, the mayor, and his students, mentees and spiritual sons. Their special words brought back delightful memories for me.
As teenagers my brother, sister and I used to come and sing in the choir at Shiloh after attending the Catholic Mass. In those days that was quite a daring gesture.
One of my most cherished memories is that, during our late teenage-young adult years, Reverend and Mrs Phillips opened up their home every Sunday to us with Reverend Brooks ("Brooksie")for "fireside chats." I cannot remember what we discussed, but these were such special times that, even though I lived way up on Canal street (on "the other side of the tracks") I walked, whether someone else was with me or not, all the down to their home (which was at that time on Sharon street.) It was so special of them to give us that listening ear and some very wise counsel.
I will also never forget how, during one of the most traumatic events of my life, victim, protectors and purpetrator all ran swiftly through the open door of their home on Monument street, where all of us found open arms of love and consolation.

Please accept condolescences from my entire family. Precious memories of mine are being married by "O.G", and sitting in his parlor with my best friend Charlotte Sayles while watching Miriam and Peter play. He was the pillar of the community.

I remember when Rev. Phillips first came to West Medford and would visit his flock on his bicycle. He baptised me when I was 16, dedicated my children at the "Old" Shiloh. We met so often at his home on Monument St. for Women's meetings. He was a wonderful counselor. The last time I saw him he did not know me but he recognized as "a child of God". He was a very special person and was sorely missed the last few years at
Shiloh. My love and sympathy to Miriam, Peter and family and young Miriam.

Very sad to hear Of Rev. Phillips passing. It is truely showing the end of an era in West Medford. Although I was not an avid church goer, later on in my life I relized Rev. Phillips was the focus of a major live lessen learned. My Prayers to the Phillps family and the entire community of West Medford, including those of us that are now spread around the country.

Reverend Phillips was exemplary in what I base any pastors who have been in my life. He baptised me as a teenager, performed my marriage ceremony and dedicated my two children. He had been extremely instrumental and uplift in my life. Always encouraging and leading me in a positive direction. Thank you for sharing this great and wonder man with the Dujon family.

praise God for his life in Christ. my great grandmother(margaret j wright) of 32 jerome st west medford. helped to found Shiloh baptist Church on Lincoln street. our whole family (generations) worshipped there. i remember him from my childhood. my love and prayers to all the family
