Dear Virginia! My husband Alex and I were absolutely devastated when we read in the Boston Globe’s annual martyrology about the death of our dear Paul. Somehow we miss that sad information due to our absence from Boston in August and couldn't attend the funeral to pay our last respect to him. With certain delay but from the bottom of our hearts we are sending you and your family our deepest sympathy and condolences. I knew Paul Parks professionally and had the pleasure of working with him. From the first encounter with him I had been under the spell of his outstanding personality. He was a man of dignity, compassion and wisdom and I always felt like in irredeemable debt for all he had done for me personally as for a recent immigrant and a new American. Although we didn’t meet with him often in the last years Paul always remained in our life as a very important person, a dear friend and trustworthy advisor. We will cherish the memory of him for the rest of our lives.

Paul & family. I know this is very late, but I hope Buz gave you my heartfelt condolences. I know how tough it is to lose your Dad, but you have to know that his soul is at rest in the love of Jesus Christ and that he lived his life as God wanted him to. Please let me know, through Buzzy, if there is anything I can do besides pray for his soul and for your peace. God Bless You.

I am loosing the only male role models I’ve ever known. My Boston father/Mentor and my biological father. Both at the same time. I know not to ask why.
I will miss you Paul but I know you are happy with what I have done with my life through your guidance. Thanks to you and your wife (Virginia), I was not a lose child. I had a dream and I reached it.
To Virginia and family, please accept my most sincere condolences on your loss. My family and I have been praying since we heard. Words alone cannot express my sorrow but I needed you to know that meeting Paul made a major difference in my life. I was taught that you should never say “I could not have done it without you”. But I MUST say, Paul, I could not have reached my goals without you. Thank you so much Paul and Virginia.

I met Paul Parks at a meeting at Freedom House when I was a young woman upset over urban renewal. While Paul often disagreed with my positions on urban renewal and later on civil rights and strategies for attacking racism in Boston, he did so with grace and humor. He will be missed as a very vocal supporter of equal rights for African Americans and quality education for our children. I will miss his warmth and insight.

I knew Paul Parks professionally as a dedicated public servant, but more so, as a warm and open individual who dedicated himself to the causes of his community. Although I am more than 20 years his junior and he, a member of the greatest generation, I was honored that he called me his friend. To his family, in particular to Paul Parks Jr, my deepest sympathy, Karl Nurse

Funny how we approach life and react differently. This was a man who spent his life coping with hardships and challenges far beyond normal. Not just once, but again and again, from the ghetto streets of Indianapolis to WWII to busing in the streets of Boston. Yet, instead of becoming an angry man, Mr. Parks was a man of dignity, compassion and wisdom.
He used his experiences, education and wisdom to help others. He always had a kind word, joke or a smile to put you at ease. He will be sorely missed by many but leaves behind a wonderful family and legacy of kindness and strength.

Paul Parks will be missed by many. I had the pleasure of working with Paul at City Hall when he sat on the ZBA. I found him to be the kindest, and one of the most respectful people I have ever met. He has left his mark in the City of Boston. He raised his family with the same values he had. God Bless

To Virginia and the Parks family, I extend my heartfelt sympathy in the passing of Paul. A gentleman , a scholar and dearly beloved by so many
people. His acts of kindness to people like me and my family will never be forgotten. These people are all over Massachusetts and beyond. His kindness to people of every walk of life
insures a legacy greater than all of the work he did in purposefully building in institutions. May he rest in peace now for he has served well and a lived well. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Love Vermelle Parks&family

More than twenty years ago two gentlemen offered to let a friend and me sit in two empty seats at the small table the gentlemen occupied in a crowded Boston after-work gathering place. Both of the gentlemen were named Paul Parks. This courtesy resulted in a most memorable evening, filled with intelligent conversation and inspiring anecdotes. We also learned that we have mutual friends, very dear to us. Thank you again, Mr. Parks, for the courtesy and the conversation. Godspeed to you and God bless the Parks family.

Paul Parks Sr.
Larger than life, gentle in spirit, a man admired and loved by many!
I count my blessings every day that I have a wonderful friend, Paul Parks Jr. and through him I am blessed to have known Paul Sr. for many many years of my life . You were always a guiding light- full of patience and loving concern for the children of the city -lovingly known as "Dad" starting with the youth at St. Marks Church and growing beyond any boundaries imagined. You were always accessible and listened intensely to what was said and more importantly what was not said. Knowing you has made me a better person and you have left the world a better place. You will always be remembered as a beam of light ever glowing with purpose, love and helpfulness even to your last days My condolences to the family in this time of loss. Love Linda

Mr. Parks was so generous with his time and expertise. Back in his Model Cities days, he was very patient with a group college students who were trying to provide recreation/education services in a Model Neighborhood. Mr Parks always had time for us and taught us how to navigate the bureaucracy. May he rest in peace.

Paul Parks was the foremost citizen of Mattapan. Our city and our Commonwealth are diminished by his passing. I could always seek his counsel and count on his passion for community causes. He was a model of civic engagement and public service. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his many friends. I hope they are consoled by the knowledge that he is at rest and at peace in God's kingdom.

Mr. Parks:
We are better people for having known you, Sir. You served your country proudly at it's great moment of need, saw the true depth of human hatred and suffering. You returned to your country and set about building a greater City for all of us to live in. You overcame great odds and obstacles with dignity and intellegence. You showed me many great attributes in your time on the Boston Zoning Board. Rest in Peace after a job well done for all of us
