LANDIS, Scott Chief Warrant Officer Three Scott "Scotty" Landis of Hanson, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the age of 34. Born and raised in Hanson, he was the son of Donna (Conway) Landis of Hanson and the late Richard Landis. Scott was a 2002 graduate of Whitman Hanson High School. He started flying when he was 16 years old and never stopped. Scott enlisted with the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 2001, as an Aviation Operation Specialist (15P) and went to Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia two days after graduating high school. He then progressed to attend Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was a dedicated member of the Massachusetts's Army National Guard, and part of Alpha Company Third Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment based at Joint Base Cape Cod where he was the Battalion Aviation Safety Officer and a UH-60 Instructor Pilot. Scott's extensive military career included: Basic Training 2002, Aviation Warrant Officer Basic Training 2007, Helicopter Flight School 2008 – 2009, UH-60 Blackhawk Instructor Pilot 2011, US Army Aviation Safety Officer Course 2012, Warrant Officer Advanced Course 2014. Scott also completed three active duty combat tours; Operation Iraqi Freedom 2005 - 2006, Operation New Dawn in 2010 - 2011, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan 2013 - 2014. He was currently serving in efforts of Operation Joint Guardian Kosovo Force (KFOR) this year. Scott was also an accomplished fixed wing aircraft pilot with land and sea plane ratings. Scott is survived by his wife and love of his life, Staci (Cushman) Landis, and his son, the light of his life, Jack Thomas Landis, both of Hanson. He is also survived by his mother, Donna (Conway) Landis of Hanson; siblings: Ryan, Chelsea, Patrick, and Peter Landis, all of Hanson, Troy, John, and Brian Landis, all of Maine, and Bruce Wyman of Hyannis. He was the cherished grandson of Elizabeth Landis of Bridgewater and her late husband Richard Landis, and the loved son-in-law of Christine Cushman of Oxford, ME, and her late husband Thomas Cushman Sr. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Scott also leaves behind many close friends that he cherished dearly. Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan Street, Cor Rte. 14 & 58, HANSON, on Thursday from 4-8 PM. There will be an 11 AM graveside service with full military honors on Friday at Fern Hill Cemetery, High Street, Hanson, MA.
