JOHN NAGORNIAK Obituary

NAGORNIAK, John Joseph Of Foxborough & Kennebunkport, ME, died September 7, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the only child of the late A.O. & Marie (Scheuerle) Nagorniak. John was a graduate of Princeton University and the Sloan School at MIT. He was President of Franklin Portfolio Associates from 1982-2000 and served as CEO for over 20 years. Prior to Franklin, John was Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at State Street Bank and Trust Company. Previously, he was Director of Investment Management Technology for the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was the past President of the Investment Technology Association and had been on the Council of that organization and the Council of the Quantitative Discussion Group. John was the past President of the Boston Security Analysts Society and past Chair and Trustee of the Research Foundation of the CFA Institute. He was a Director of the MIT Investment Company and a member of the MIT Supplemental 401(k) Oversight Committee. John was an independent Director of the Columbia Nations mutual funds. John had pursued many charitable endeavors, including heading up Princeton's annual giving campaign at one time. For multiple years he served as his class treasurer. He was a member of The Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance. John was the husband of Jill (Hampton) Nagorniak and the loving father of Dr. Joy Nagorniak of Washington, DC and Peter J. Nagorniak and his wife Christina (Egan) of Kennebunkport, ME. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Louis R. Hampton of Palm City, FL, brother-in-law, Reed Hampton and his wife Vanessa of Bomoseen, VT, and his beloved grandchildren, Christopher & Alyson Nagorniak. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 12 at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, FOXBOROUGH.
