I awoke this morning thinking of Bob. I don't know why, but I had to check out what became of him. I worked with Bob for several years while we were both civilian employees of the US Army in the High Energy Laser Project Office on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He was highly respected by all, had a great sense of humor, and made significant scientific contributions in the field. Most of the individuals in that office went on to do more amazing things, and Bob was probably the most successful in that regard. I knew he went on to head Sparta, but lost track of him. I am sad to learn that he has passed on; so too have many of our former colleagues. Certainly he has earned his rest. I know he is fondly remembered by thousands. My condolences to his family.

Bob will be missed so much by so many people. He was our leader and our friend. He had such a positive attitude even as he fought ALS - it amazed me. He was my hero.

We've known Bob and Mary since graduate school at UCSan Diego. We've seen them through the years. Our fond memories of Bob significantly outweigh our sadness of what he had to endure in the last years of his life. Love, Rita & Jerry Sacks
