CYNTHIA GIACCHETTI Obituary

GIACCHETTI, Cynthia Age 77, of Mesa, Arizona, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, after a brief illness, with her loving family by her side. Cynthia was born Aug. 1, 1943, to Irene and Luke Dohanian and was raised in Somerville and West Newton, Massachusetts. She graduated from Newton High School in 1961 and earned a degree in art from Cazenovia College in New York. Cynthia married Anthony Giacchetti in 1968 and they made their home in Harvard where they raised their two children, Rob and Nicola. During this time, she was an active volunteer with Cub Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Harvard Help and Meals on Wheels. She eventually returned to the professional workforce in sales and marketing support roles for several technology companies. After her children were grown, Cynthia relocated to Arizona and in 1995, she married Michael Lucey. They were devoted to each other for more than 25 years. Together they launched a successful business to supply the medical, electronics, and oil and gas industries. Cynthia was the sales and marketing mastermind and helped develop a technology that is being used today in the treatment of COVID-19. Cynthia loved racing her Boxster S "Ruby" and was an active member of the Porsche Club of America's Arizona Region, where she was the social chair and received the Enthusiast of the Year Award. Cynthia was devoted to her family. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion and delighted in welcoming guests into her home. Holiday celebrations were legendary, and she could sew the best Halloween costumes and bake the most creative birthday cakes. She loved to travel, and one of her favorite trips was visiting her ancestral homeland of Armenia with her niece, Amy. She "adopted" many young people who adored her, and she rescued a host of furry friends including Sparky, Spencer, Shadow, Sasha and Spock. Cynthia will always be remembered for her megawatt smile, vibrant and caring spirit, and willingness to help others. She is survived by her husband, Michael Lucey; children Rob (Susan) Giacchetti and Nicola (Scott) McIntosh; grandchildren Carly, Matthew, Sylvia, Jeffrey, Luke and Robert; brother Rick (Wendy) Dohanian; nephew Dana (Chris) Russian, niece Amy Russian and niece-in-law Liz Ames; and "greats" Katie, Greg, Beryl, Robbie, Zach and Anna. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Luke Dohanian; brother Bob Dohanian and sister Zabelle Russian; and nephew Jeffrey Russian. A celebration of Cynthia's life will be held at a future date. Memorials in her name may be made to the Arizona Humane Society.

45 members of the AZ Region Porsche Club attended Valentines Date Night in Honor of Cynthia Giachetti on 2/3/22 with Michael in attendance. It was a wonderful gathering to honor our dear friend Cyn and I think she would have been proud. I see her memories and photos in my Facebook pages nearly every week. She was a true friend and the world is not the same without her. Here is what I read...

Thank you all for coming tonight to the 7th Annual Valentines Date Night. This tradition was started by a long-time friend and member of AZPCA, Cynthia Giacchetti. I want to thank Chef Robert and Chef Janet for having us.
I especially want to thank Michael her husband for sharing his wife with us and the club for so many years. Cynthia had children and grandchildren, but her love of dogs; their current dog Spock that she rescued from a garage sale, was what sealed the deal with Jerry and me. And of course her love of Porsches, her one and only Porsche she ever owned, a Boxster named Ruby.
We met Cyn and Mike over 15 years ago, we did AXs and DEs with her, Porsches and Pancakes, Weekend Tours to Cal and Vegas, Sunday Drives, you name it she attended these all. She championed Ladies Drives around town, she was my Flight 26 Registrar for 105 cars and 150 people at the banquet, and continued being registrar for years to come, she was Co-Social Chair with me 5 years doing Holiday Parties and Progressive Dinners and Anniversary Parties, and just-cause parties! When Cyn arrived, everyone knew her, and you knew the party could start!
When Nicola, Cynthia´s daughter, heard we were having this event tonight, she wrote the following:
I'm so glad you reached out and so happy you're continuing the Valentine's Date Night. Cyn would be so pleased! I looked at the photos from the event that you had linked in the email. My mom just had a way of making everything special and making everybody feel special. She lived for that and everyone loved her. And if they didn't, to heck with them! She loved spending time with you and Jer and I'm glad you were her friend. I miss her so much.
And that´s the memory of Cynthia I wanted to leave with you all, whether you knew her or not. She was a special lady, a true Porsche Enthusiast, and volunteer and proponent for girls to be just as tough as guys on the track, and a person that never said no, if anyone in the club asked her to help. Every Club should hope to have a Cynthia, and every member should have a friend like her. Cheers to Cyn!

Gregory Matoian (Cynthias first cousin) and I have just found out about this very sad news after a phone call to Wendy and Rick. It is shocking and we are so very sorry for this loss to her family. She was a lovely lady and although we hadn’t seen her in many years her warmth when we did stay in touch was always evident. Please know you are in our thoughts

Cynthia and I were best friends for over 50 years, having met at Vappi Construction Company in Cambridge, MA back in the 1960's. I was maid of honor at her wedding, "Auntie Nancy" to Rob and Nicola, and close friend all these years. Cyn will be truly missed.
