João DaLuz Teixeira, known by many as "John" or "Tio Djodje," was born in Fogo, Cabo Verde on April 4, 1928 to the late Gertrudes Maria Fidalgo and Egidio DaLuz Teixeira. He grew up in a large family with eleven siblings: Amelia "Kuma" Dias (deceased), Manuel "Nene" DaLuz Teixeira (deceased), Maria Fidalgo de Pina (deceased), Maria Julia "Tajulia" Cardoso (deceased), Jacinto Fidalgo (deceased), Maria Ilda Fidalgo Barros (deceased), Americo "Bedjo" Fidalgo (deceased), Quilda Fidalgo Barros (deceased), Ana "Olinda" Fidalgo Rosa (deceased), Silvina Fidalgo (deceased) and Joaquim "Djoca" DaLuz Teixeira of Braintree, MA.
As the youngest child, he was very adventurous. In 1955, he migrated to Brazil in search of a better life and later migrated to the United States of America in 1957. He met the love of his life, Isabel "Bella" Barros and married her shortly after in April of 1961.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bella Teixeira, his son and daughter in law, John Teixeira and Julene Teixeira, and their two children, China and Julohn. He is also survived by his daughter Filomena Gomes Rodrigues, his brother and sister in law, Joaquim and Maria Teixeira, and a host of many nieces and nephews.
We love you, Dad, Tio Djodje, John, Jorge - as he was known to so many. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
