Mackey died at his home in Westford, MA in January 2021 at the age of 59.
The family invites you to his memorial service via Zoom on Sunday, April 11 at 5 pm. A celebration of Phil's life with live music will be scheduled in Massachusetts when it's safe to gather in person again. For more information, please contact a member of his family.
He graduated from Wellesley Senior High School and earned his degree in geology from Boston University. While his career as a land surveyor and crew chief took him far afield, his talent as a musician kept him connected with music-loving friends back home. Phil played the electric bass for decades with the band Turtle Head, inspired by the music and philosophy of the Grateful Dead. He loved music, golf, his friends, his pets, his Boston sports teams (especially the Bruins), and being outdoors in nature.
He is survived by his father, Richard L. Mackey, his sister Monica M. Mackey and his stepfamily Wendy Mackey and Kelley, Fennel and Brandon Doyle. His mother, Maryln Mackey Gillis, preceded him in death.
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone.
We wish Phil a peaceful rest with love.
