Melvin James "Mel" Aafedt, 78, passed away on Dec. 23, 2013 at Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman. Mel was born in Great Falls, Mont. on June 12, 1935 to Ole and Emma Aafedt, Sr.

Mel served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from service in May 1957.

He spent his career driving 18-wheelers across the country, traveling to every state except two, and doing it without an accident. When his career ended as an over-the-road trucker, he drove school buses in Great Falls and Bozeman.

Mel loved anything to do with John Wayne.

He is survived by his son, Brian Golff; sister, Mabel Palagi; and brother, Roy Aafedt. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

At his request, his urn will be buried at Fort Harrison Veteran's Cemetery.
