Anita Lynne Rudberg, a child of God, passed away on Aug. 27, 2014 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She was born July 3, 1963 to Don Rudberg of Bozeman and Shirley Rudberg, now of Great Falls, and lived here almost her entire life. We knew right away that she was special and would bring challenges and joy. She was happy with her world. Anita was not dealt a hand of aces; still, she played what she had with happiness and gusto. She took life as it came and smiled all the way.

Anita was born when a new understanding of the mentally handicapped was emerging – an understanding that accorded them an active role in society. Anita was in special education in our Bozeman school system and was the first such student to be awarded a diploma from Bozeman Senior High in 1984, receiving a standing ovation from her classmates as she crossed the stage. She could read, cook at a passable level and even make change. During her many later years with Reach, Inc., she worked on contract assembly jobs in the work activity center and at McDonald's.

She showed those around her what it was to enjoy simple pleasures, listen to Click and Clack, to see the goodness of life, to still be mischievous, occasionally cantankerous and a pixie. She beautified and brightened all the lives she touched. We will sorely miss her insistence on being called 'old lady.' Not girl, not young lady. Old lady. Yet she was always a child, small of stature, looking never more than 12 or 13, with a radiance of purity and innocence in her bright brown eyes.

Anita is survived by her parents, Don and Shirley; her dad's special lady, Sally Hart; her greatest friend, Loni Restvedt of Belgrade, with whom she grew up; brother, Steve of Denver; sister, Nancy Royal in Missouri; uncle, George Rudberg (Rose) of Boulder City, Nev.; aunt, Betty Bielen; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Joan Rudberg, in 2009. If you would like, contributions in Anita's name can be made to Reach, Inc., 322 Gallatin Park Drive, Bozeman, MT 59715; or to the Gallatin County Rest Home, 1221 W Durston, Bozeman, MT 59715.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church.
