Catherine L. Biggins
Catherine L. Biggins of Manatee County, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by family August 15th, 2017. She was born in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of the late James John and Elizabeth Henrietta Kohley Biggins. She attended Saint Patrick's grade school, Saint Francis Academy and earned her Bachelors degree at the College of Saint Francis in Joliet, IL. She obtained her Masters degree and did PhD work in Hawaii. In 1965 she moved to New Mexico and worked for the Catholic Lay Apostolate SOCRRA where she devoted herself to helping the poorest of the poor.
She moved to Hawaii in 1972 and married Thomas Jezierny in 1974. While in Hawaii she taught Psychology at Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Oahu.
In 1983 she moved to Bradenton, Florida. She worked for Manatee County Schools as a counselor from 1984 to 2011. With a servants heart she gave her time, talent and treasure to her students. It wasn't uncommon for her to give bicycles, dolls and skate boards to those who otherwise might have gone without a gift at Christmas. Towards the end of her carrier she was instrumental in developing the high school dual enrollment program for Manatee County.
Survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Connor (the late Patrick), Mary Kinzler (Gordon) and two brothers, Edward Biggins (Sue) and William Biggins and preceded by her brother, James E. Biggins (Shirley). She will be greatly missed by 24 nieces, nephews and countless grand nieces and nephews to whom she devoted much of her life.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 at Noon at Holy Cross Catholic Church 505 26th St. West Palmetto, FL, 34221 and a reception from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Bradenton Country Club 4646 9th Ave. West Bradenton, FL, 34209.
