Gloria Evelyn Stokes Vaughan Gloria Evelyn Stokes Vaughan, age 94, of Bradenton, Fla., passed away at Westminster Point Pleasant on July 10, 2018. Evelyn was born on August 17, 1923 to the late John D. and Annie Cobb Stokes in Baker, FL. She graduated from Baker High School in 1941, then attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. She married William Porter Vaughan in 1943. A Military wife, Evelyn worked at Eglin Field throughout WWII. She cared for her family alone during Porter's many deployments and postings overseas. During the military years, she was a gracious hostess, skilled seamstress, avid Bridge player and Square Dancer. She contributed to many charities through her work with the Marine Corps Officers Wives Club. Moving to Bradenton in 1965, and into civilian life, Evelyn continued her love of travel, became a competitive bowler, and raised and showed orchids with the Orchid Society. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Porter; her sisters, Ruth Funk and Dorothy Griffin and her brothers, Jackie, Little John and Dan. She is survived by her children: Bill Vaughan (Jackie) of Largo, FL, Linda Vaughan Stanley (Doug) of Asheville, NC, Dennis Vaughan (Joan) of Brad-enton, and Rick Vaughan (Tami) of Parrish, FL, nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Evelyn was known for her dry sense of humor, love for her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life Service at the Palma Sola Botanical Park, 9800 17th Avenue NW, Bradenton, Florida, on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
