Daughter of Gordon Leckie and Alice (Gregg) Leckie. Maureen was predeceased by her mother, Alice, who was killed in 1962 in a rock fall as their family was driving through Logan Pass on Route 2 just east of Heaven's Peak, Montana. Her father, Gordon passed away in Antlers Beach, British Columbia, Canada, in 2003. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, Bud Schweikart, with whom she lived in Abington, PA. They loved sailing together on Chesapeake Bay. Maureen cared for him as life slipped away, too early. Maureen graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse in Winnipeg, Manitoba; San Mateo and San Francisco, California; Hawaii; Abington, Pennsylvania; and Bradenton, Florida. After moving to Florida, Maureen cared for patients in a nursing home, an urgent care center, and several home health agencies. She also became involved in the world of dog shows through her best friend, Jo Ann White, and made many friendships there. During her last years, she shared her home and her heart with two champion Shih Tzu, Gio and Gabby. Maureen will be deeply missed by Alexa Meyers who was often called Maureen's granddaughter, Jo Ann White and their mutual friends, her long-term friends, Pat George, Kate Duncan, and Susan Falbo, Maureen's former neighbors and many cousins in both Canada and the United States. Maureen's remains have been returned to the earth with friends and family members attending. A brief Service will take place in St. Francis Memorial Gardens of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 833 Magellan Drive, Sarasota, FL 34243 at noon on Sunday, July 15th, 2018. Maureen's extended family and friends wish to express our thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at the Blake Medical Center for Maureen's care during the last phase of her life.
