born on April 30, 1940 to the late Lloyd H. Thompson and Blanche N. Thompson in Sumter, S.C. passed away on December 23, 2016 at the age of 76. He moved to Florida in 1972 and spent the balance of his years in the Sarasota and Bradenton area. He was very active in the Manatee County Radio Controllers and the Valkyries of Manatee County Airplane Clubs. He learned to fly models in the early 60's in S.C. and continued to enjoy the hobby until his passing, never losing touch with the friends he made in his early years of modeling. Ray retired from State Farm Insurance as an auto estimator. Prior to working for State Farm he spent his years working in the auto industry with local dealerships in every phase except sales.Ray enjoyed Disney World and was an annual pass holder for many years and visited the parks hundreds of times.Survived by his brother James L. Thompson and wife Wannell of Hilliard Fl, his step sister Betty Reese and step brother T C Stewart all of Sumter, S.C.There will be a local visitation at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home on Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm. Internment will be in Sumter S.C. at Evergreen Memorial Park at a later date.
