John Weichel Obituary

John Weichel
November 15, 1927 - May 1, 2021
Bradenton, Florida - John Weichel passed away on May 1, 2021 in Bradenton, FL. He was born November 15, 1927 in Sandusky, Ohio. He graduated from Miami University (Ohio) where he was a member of the Alpha chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity.
Following graduation, he went to work for Central Mutual Insurance Company. He married Evalyn Hudson of Greenville, SC in 1953. They moved to Bradenton, FL in 1954, where he started Weichel Insurance Agency, later to be known as Bradenton Insurance. In his true entrepreneurial style he founded Service Insurance Co. in 1978.
John trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and out of that relationship grew his love for family, his church and his community. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 65 years where he served as an elder, scoutmaster and loved singing in the choir. He was also active at First Presbyterian Church (Highlands, NC) where he and Evalyn spent their summers. The Manatee Community Foundation recently awarded him the Lifetime Spirit Award for his philanthropic generosity to the community, particularly at State College of Florida Lakewood Ranch Center and the Manatee Performing Arts Center. He had a heart for foster care in his community and was an avid supporter of Guardian Angels of SW Florida and their foster family home campus, as well as Bradenton Christian School.
John was an avid golfer at both Bradenton Country Club and Wildcat Cliffs Country Club (Highlands, NC). He even tried his hand at ranching for a few years and loved taking the grandkids to feed the cows and run around in the country.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evalyn and daughter, Elizabeth. He is survived by his son, John "Alden" Weichel (Debbie) and daughter, Anne Weichel Fuller (Mike) and grandchildren; Abby Weichel Fishero (Brian), Hudson Baird, Anna Weichel Henderson (Keith), John Weichel III, James Weichel, Harrison Fuller, Grayson Fuller and Remington Fuller. He was further delighted to have four great-grandchildren; Luke, John Emory and Sara Bailey Fishero and Evalyn "Evie" Henderson. John's greatest passion was to pass on a legacy of faith in God and generosity to community to his family which he did so well.
A private Burial Service will be held for family. A Celebration of Life, to which all are invited, will be held on May 24th, 2021 at 4PM at First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton.
Memorial donations may be made to Guardian Angels of SW Florida (1429 60th Ave. W., Suite 200, Bradenton, FL 34207) or First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton (1402 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34205).

There are not enough kind words for us to say about John and all he did for me starting out in 1971 when he helped me get my first car lot opened. His support and encouragement went through out my business career in Manatee County. Not to mention all of the years we bought our insurance from Bradenton Insurance. It was not only through business but John was a great friend. Our love and respect for him and his family is forever. Louis and Lois-Lynn Bellemare

My thoughts and condolences to John and the family. Burt worked many years with John in setting up the insurance companies and it is hard to believe that they are all gone now. But you have many lasting memories of good times with him and those days were precious.
