Daniel Bruce Wells of Cambridgeport, VT lost his 11 year battle with cancer on February 1st surrounded by his loving family.

Dan was born December 31, 1946 at home in East Bethel, VT, the youngest of 8 kids of the late Edwin "Ray" and Dorothy Wells.

Dan was a 3 sport athlete at Hartford High School and played in the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl after graduating in 1966. Following graduation he joined the US Navy and served one tour in Vietnam on board destroyer USS Richard Edwards as a radioman. After serving in the Navy he returned home to VT and got married to Robin a year later. He drove for UPS for 7 years before starting D&R Fire Extinguisher business in Bellows Falls. Dan & Robin then moved to Cambridgeport where they owned and operated D&R General Store until he retired in 2009.

Dan loved being on the ocean, hunting, fishing, traveling and camping. His true love was his family and watching his kids and grandkids play sports, rarely missing a game.

Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Robin; son Todd (Casey) of Rockingham, VT; daughter Tatha (Edward Brown) of Halfmoon, NY; grandchildren Bruce, Shealyn, Sarah (Ian), Dylan, Conor, and Taylor; sisters Eleanor VanAlstyne of Ludlow, Jan Luce (Jim) of Palmer, AK, Joy Soule (Bill) of Hartford, VT, Sandy Heavisides of Claremont, NH and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring at his home in Cambridgeport with a military burial at Randolph Veterans Cemetery.

Danny was an awesome classmate & friend. He could be tearing it up one day on the football field & singing Patches to classmates the next. Truly one of the good guys. Gonna miss you. RIP❤

Our thoughts are with Robin and Dan's family, we always enjoyed Dan's visits, he was very knowledgeable about many things. Dan was an inspiration the way he fought to overcome his sickness. We were able to be at many sports events with him and it was enjoyable.

I was fortunate to have Dan in my life. Having him in my life helped mold me and show me how to be a good man. He treated me like one of his kids and I will forever be greatful for the time he shared with me.

I was and am sorry to hear the news of Dan. Although I didn't know him real well, I sure liked him and he was very kind to me. He put up a long fight, bless his heart. My thoughts are with you Robin along with the children, relatives and friends.
