Rosemary Sherrill Payne, 78, of Charlotte passed away Sunday Jan. 20, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Shallotte.
Rosemary was born March 7, 1940, in Charlotte. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and the Moose Club in Shallotte.
She was the daughter of Robey Kirkland Sherrill and Sarah Frances Sherrill of Charlotte. Rosemary is survived by her son, Jeff Trimmer; daughter, Stephanie Phillips; sisters, Gail Plyler and Diane Brown; brother, Mike Sherrill; granddaughters, Jessica Trimmer and Addison Powers; and grandson, Connor Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sara and Robey Sherrill of Charlotte; brother, Robey Sherrill Jr. of Charlotte; and husband, James Payne of Charlotte..
Rosemary graduated from Central HIgh School of Charlotte in 1958. She also attended Kings College of Business and worked as a secretary with BobKraft, Renfrow Tile, Charlotte Pipe and NationsBank before joining her husband, Jim, in the ownership and daily operations of TNT Leather Company of Charlotte and, later, Shallotte. After retiring she worked at Coastal Hardware and drove an activity bus for Brunswick County Schools. When younger she enjoyed taking her kids on weekend camping trips and was active in ParentsWithoutPartners. She enjoyed dancing, quilting, crocheting, sewing and surf fishing among many of a variety of activities. Rosemary was happiest when she was with friends and helping others.
