Grover Cleveland Avera, age 94, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at Magnolia Manor on the Coast.
Grover was born in Lakeland, FL. He lived in Greenville, NC for many years before moving to The Villages, FL and then to Richmond Hill where he has lived since 2009. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Voice of America as a Site B Supervisor. Grover was an avid golfer and enjoyed the stock market. He was a member of Oakmont Baptist Church in Greenville.
Grover is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Stalvey Avera and his sister, Betty Patten.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cynthia A. McDonald (Ed) of Raleigh, NC, Shannon A. Balas (Michael) of Richmond Hill, and Dana A. Jones (Neil) of Houston, TX; his son, Tony Avera (Carol) of Savannah; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Richmond Hill Funeral Home with military honors. The family will receive friends before the service.
Burial will be held in the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
