BUCYRUS: Blanche L. Gilfillan, 90 of Bucyrus passed away Tuesday morning, October 9, 2012 in Heartland of Bucyrus.

Blanche was born on February 22, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio to the Late Robert and Blanche Olive (Bortz) Cornell. On January 4, 1942 she married Dudley P. Gilfillan who on December 10, 1994 preceded her in death.

Surviving are her sons, Dudley A. (Donna) Gilfillan of Bucyrus, and Dr. Kenneth R. (Deborah) Gilfillan of Wilmington, Ohio; her daughter, Susan West of Westerville, Ohio; also surviving are her grandchildren, Stephen West of Medina, Ohio and Tamera Chapman of Chesterville, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; brother, Chuck (Shirley) Cornell of Jefferson, Ohio; and a half brother, Arthur Thurston of Medina, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Blanche is preceded in death by her brothers, George Cornell and Robert Cornell; as well as her son-in-law, Terry West.

Blanche graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940. She lived in Chesterville from 1952 to 1977 where she helped her husband farm and worked as a cook for the school for nearly 20 years. In 1977 they moved to Wilmington, Ohio where they lived for 10 years. In 1987 she moved to Bucyrus. She is a past member of the Zion Chapel United Methodist Church. While attending church, she played the organ and was very active with the Worship Music Committee. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 12 noon until the time of service in the funeral home. Funeral Service for Blanche will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Heinlen officiating, burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville, Ohio.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the of Cleveland through the funeral home.
